CBDT Extends ITR Filing Deadline to September 15, 2025, for Non-Audit Taxpayers

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the FY 2024–25 (AY 2025–26) from July 31 to September 15, 2025, for taxpayers not requiring audits.

The extension follows significant changes in ITR forms, system updates, and delays in utility releases and TDS credit reflection. Taxpayers filing by the new date will still earn interest on refunds, potentially increasing government payouts.

This extension does not apply to audit cases, whose original deadlines remain unchanged. A belated return can still be filed by December 31, 2025, with penalties and interest if the September deadline is missed.
