The Delhi High Court has issued notice to the Delhi Government and other authorities on a PIL raising concerns over unsafe and unregulated e-rickshaw operations in the city.
The petition was filed by a father whose eight-year-old daughter died after being hit by a speeding e-rickshaw.
The plea points to frequent violations of traffic rules, lack of regulation, and poor enforcement of safety norms governing e-rickshaws. It seeks a cap on fresh registrations, strict enforcement measures, seizure of non-compliant vehicles, and the creation of a compensation fund for victims of accidents involving e-rickshaws.
The Court has granted eight weeks to the respondents to file their replies. The matter is listed for hearing on March 18.
