The Karnataka High Court has refused to stay the rules capping cinema tickets at ₹200 and directed multiplexes to maintain detailed, auditable records of all ticket sales, including mode of booking, payment, and GST.
The Court also ordered that a summary of the interim order be displayed on-screen for at least 30 seconds before every movie in English and the regional language.
The bench instructed the Multiplex Association of India to propose a refund mechanism for excess amounts collected electronically, and cash transactions must have numbered receipts.
An independent auditor will review compliance, and unclaimed funds may be deposited into a State Welfare Fund.
