Supreme Court Rules All Retired High Court Judges Entitled To Full Pensions

The Supreme Court has ruled that all retired High Court judges, whether permanent or additional, are entitled to equal pension and post-retirement benefits, affirming the right to equality under Article 14 of the Constitution.

The Court held that differentiating between judges based on entry mode or service type violates constitutional principles.

The court directed the Union government to pay ₹15 lakhs per year as pension to retired Chief Justices and ₹13.6 lakhs to other High Court judges, including additional judges.

Family pensions and widow benefits will also extend to the families of additional judges. The matter has been concluded.
