Supreme Court Directs ₹20 Lakh Deposit for National Task Force on Student Mental Health & Suicide Prevention

The Supreme Court directed the Union of India to deposit Rs. 20 Lakhs within two days for setting up a National Task Force (NTF) to address student mental health and suicide prevention.

The Court also sought status reports on two recent student suicides, one at IIT Kharagpur and the other at a coaching center in Kota, Rajasthan, emphasizing the need for educational institutions to file FIRs in such cases. 

The case touches on the right to life under Article 21 and the duty to report under Section 154 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The matter will be heard again on May 13, 2025
