The Punjab and Haryana High Court initiated a suo motu Public Interest Litigation (PIL) based on a news report stating that real estate developer DLF was cutting nearly 2,000 trees in Gurugram’s Aravalli region for a real estate project.
Notices were issued to the Haryana government, Gurugram Municipal Corporation, and DLF, seeking a status report within a week. The land reportedly falls under municipal limits and is owned by DLF.
Simultaneously, the court initiated two more suo cases concerning staff shortage at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh and waterlogging in Zirakupur, Punjab, highlighting its proactive stance on pressing civic and environmental issues.
