Supreme Court Discloses 6.3% of Cleared HC Judge Appointments Have Judicial Lineage

The Supreme Court has disclosed that 14 out of 221 High Court judge appointments cleared in the past two and a half years, about 6.3%, are related to sitting or retired judges of the higher judiciary.

Only one such name, that of Adv. Rohit Kapoor remains pending with the Centre. 

Of the 303 names received during the tenure of the former Chief Justice, 170 were approved, including 12 with judicial ties.  Under the current Chief Justice, 51 of 103 have been approved, two of whom also have judicial relatives.

Also, out of 33 sitting judges in the Supreme Court,  21 have declared their assets, including those of their spouses, in a development that would enhance transparency in the judiciary.
