The Supreme Court of India has agreed to examine Uttar Pradesh’s appeal against the Allahabad High Court verdict acquitting four death row convicts in the 2007 CRPF camp attack case.
A Bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta granted leave in the State’s special leave petitions. The December 31, 2007, attack near the Rampur gate claimed eight CRPF personnel.
The High Court had acquitted Mohd Sharif and others of murder and terror charges, citing serious lapses in investigation, including the absence of a test identification parade and improper handling of forensic evidence.
It found no proof under UAPA but upheld convictions under the Arms Act.
