PIL Filed in Delhi High Court to Stay Release of ‘Udaipur Files’, Alleges Hate Speech

A Public Interest Litigation has been filed before the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the release of the film Udaipur Files, based on the 2022 murder of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur.

Filed by Maulana Arshad Madani, President of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, the petition alleges that the film promotes hate speech and may disturb communal harmony. It also challenges the Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) approval for the film’s release.

Apart from seeking a ban on the release of the film, the plea further seeks direction from the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to ensure the removal of the film’s trailer from all digital and social media platforms. (Maulana Arshad Madani v. UOI & Ors.)
