Aadhaar Now Mandatory for Income Certificates in Delhi, Says Governer

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved a proposal to make Aadhaar mandatory for obtaining income certificates in Delhi. Aadhar certificates are key to accessing various state-run welfare schemes.

As per the new notification, individuals without an Aadhaar number must enrol to remain eligible for benefits. The decision invokes Section 7 of the Aadhaar Act, 2016, allowing Aadhaar authentication for welfare benefits like tuition fee reimbursement (SC/ST/OBC), pensions, and aid under Delhi Arogya Kosh.

Officials said the move aims to curb misuse and ensure subsidies reach the rightful beneficiaries.

The revenue department has been directed to widely publicise the change to avoid excluding rightful claimants due to a lack of awareness. The rule will be implemented soon.
