Supreme Court Flags Poor Tribunal Facilities, Suggests Abolition if Conditions Not Improved

The Supreme Court has taken note of the reluctance of High Court judges in accepting retirement roles in tribunals, citing poor infrastructure and lack of amenities.

The Court observed that if basic facilities like stationery, housing, transport, and office infrastructure cannot be provided, tribunals should be abolished and their work reverted to High Courts.

The Court also directed that a committee of various ministries must be formed, including the Department of Personnel and Training, to look into all the lapses and loopholes and frame a policy to provide facilities across all tribunals to assure the dignity of all those judges who take up tribunal posts.
