Advocate Shwetasree Majumdar Withdraws Consent for Delhi High Court Judgeship Amid Centre’s Delay

Advocate Shwetasree Majumdar has withdrawn her consent for elevation as a Delhi High Court judge following nearly a year-long inaction by the Central Government on the Supreme Court Collegium's recommendation dated August 21, 2024.

While her peers Ajay Digpaul and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar were cleared in January 2025, Majumdar’s name remained pending without explanation.

She is known for her expertise in intellectual property law. Her withdrawal echoes similar past instances, such as those involving Adithya Sondhi and Saurabh Kirpal, raising concerns over the Centre's selective approval process.

The Supreme Court has previously flagged such delays as detrimental to judicial independence and bench strength.
