Advocate Sachin Gupta withdrew 16 more Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petitions before the Supreme Court, days after the Court expressed strong disapproval of his earlier filings.
The Court had previously refused to entertain 25 PILs filed by him, observing that PIL jurisdiction should be invoked only for genuine public causes and not for wide-ranging or unfounded policy suggestions.
Gupta informed the Bench that he would instead pursue these issues with appropriate authorities.
Accepting the request, the Court permitted withdrawal, reinforcing that PILs must be used responsibly and not in a casual or excessive manner.
