Advocates Urge Bombay HC to Reconsider Plastic Ban Implementation

Around 150 advocates have written to the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, seeking a phased implementation of the recent ban on single-use plastic bottles and bags in the court premises [Circular dated 24th July 2024 (CS/Miscellaneous/2352).

The advocates highlighted hardships faced by litigants, lawyers and visitors, including the forced disposal of plastic bottles and inadequate access to safe drinking water.

They criticized the lack of prior notice about the ban and suggested regulating plastic production and sale instead.

The letter urged lifting the ban and establishing reliable drinking water facilities to balance environmental goals with practical needs.
