After SC Stay On UGC Equity Rules, MP HC Examines State Circular Excluding General Category Students

The Madhya Pradesh High Court directed the Students Grievances Redressal Committee to entertain discrimination complaints from students of all categories, including the General category.

The order came while hearing a challenge to a State Government circular that allegedly excluded General category students from raising complaints under the UGC (Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2026.

The petitioners argued that the circular created discriminatory classifications and denied equal protection under law.

The Court issued notice in the matter and observed that grievance redressal mechanisms should remain accessible to every student irrespective of caste or category, pending further examination of the circular’s validity.
