Attorney General for India R. Venkataramani has granted consent to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against Advocate Rakesh Kishore, who allegedly tried to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai in court last week.
Senior Advocate Vikas Singh and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta mentioned the matter before a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi, seeking urgent listing.
The bench observed that the CJI had chosen to let the matter go but agreed to list the case after the Diwali vacation.
The Attorney General noted that the act scandalised the court and affected institutional integrity..
