Allahabad High Court Rejects Plea to Quash Case Under Anti-Conversion Law

The Allahabad High Court dismissed Taufik Ahmad’s plea to quash proceedings under Sections 420, 323, 376, 344 IPC and the U.P. Conversion Prevention Act, 2020, in a case involving the alleged unlawful conversion of a Hindu girl to Islam.
The court ruled that religious conversion is valid only if done voluntarily by a legally competent individual based on genuine belief.
It emphasized that forced or fraudulent conversions could not be dismissed merely due to settlements, reaffirming the seriousness of such offenses under the 2020 law. The plea was rejected.
