Allahabad HC Grants Relief to UP Officer Fired Over WhatsApp Forward Against CM Yogi Adityanath

The Allahabad High Court reinstated Amar Singh, a State Secretariat officer, dismissed in 2020 by the Uttar Pradesh government for unintentionally forwarding a WhatsApp message accusing CM Yogi Adityanath of casteism.

The Court deemed the dismissal disproportionate, noting the inquiry violated natural justice principles and lacked evidence of deliberate harm to the government’s reputation.

Amar Singh admitted forwarding the message by mistake and deleted it immediately, yet the government imposed a harsh penalty without acknowledging his fairness.

The Court directed his reinstatement with all benefits and suggested a minor punishment, such as a warning, for his unintentional error.
