Allahabad HC Issues Guidelines for Welfare of Children Living in Prisons with Parents

The Allahabad High Court, while denying bail to a mother accused of murder, issued significant directions for the welfare of children residing in prisons with their parents.

Justice Ajay Bhanot emphasized that prison walls cannot obstruct children's rights under Articles 21 and 21-A, mandating structured programs for education, health, and psychological development.

The Court directed the State to ensure children are housed separately, sent to external schools, and protected from negative influences.

Highlighting poor coordination among government departments, it ordered the Chief Secretary to oversee implementation.

The Trial Court was directed to expedite the applicant's case hearing.
