The Allahabad High Court quashed an FIR against Shaadi.com CEO Anupam Mittal in a cheating case, ruling he committed no offence in his personal capacity.
The informant, a lawyer, claimed harassment and blackmail through the platform and alleged inaction despite complaints. A Bench of Justices Siddhartha Varma and Madan Pal Singh held that Mittal, as an intermediary under Section 79 of the IT Act, was not liable for third-party actions.
The Court noted profiles were deleted upon complaints and found no abetment or fraud, observing that the informant could have exited the platform and thus quashed the FIR.
