Allahabad High Court Says UP Anti-Conversion Law Doesn’t Bar Interfaith Marriages or Live-In Relationships

The Allahabad High Court held that Uttar Pradesh’s anti-conversion law does not prohibit interfaith marriages or live-in relationships between consenting adults.

The court recognised that the right to choose a partner and to live together is protected under fundamental rights, and noted that the law only applies where unlawful conversion through force, coercion or fraud is involved.

The bench granted relief to couples facing threats and said police must protect their life and liberty in accordance with the law.
