Allahabad High Court Issues Contempt Notice to Bareilly DM, SSP Over Rooftop Namaz Ban

The Allahabad High Court issued a contempt notice to the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police of Bareilly for stopping people from offering namaz on private property in Mohammad Ganj village.

This follows the court's January 27, 2026, order that said no permission is needed for religious prayers inside private homes under Article 25 of the Constitution.

The bench of Justices Atul Sreedharan and Siddharth Nandan noted the officials ignored the ruling from Maranatha Full Gospel Ministries vs. State of U.P.

The court stayed any action against the petitioner and listed the case for March 11 in top ten matters. It seeks instructions from the state.
