The Allahabad High Court has held that an accused out on bail has no inherent right to travel abroad for a relative’s wedding or a leisure trip.
The Court rejected the plea of Aditya Murti, a consultant at Shri Ram Murti Smarak Institute of Medical Sciences (SRMS), Bareilly, who sought permission to visit the U.S. and France from May 3 to 22 to attend family functions.
The Court emphasized that such reasons do not constitute pressing necessities and that prior permissions granted by the trial court for similar travels do not establish a precedent.
The court noted that the trial at the defence-evidence stage requires the accused's presence, and allowing travel could delay proceedings.
