Allahabad High Court Acquits Man After 9 Years in Jail, Flags Misuse of POCSO Law Over Property Disputes

The Allahabad High Court has acquitted Ram Sanehi, who spent over nine years in jail in a false POCSO case, criticising the growing trend of misusing sexual abuse allegations in family property disputes.

Justice Subhash Vidyarthi observed that filing such charges against relatives to settle petty issues or seize property has become "very common."

The Court noted the absence of medical or credible witness evidence and directed police to restore possession of the accused’s home, which may have been grabbed after his arrest. Sanehi was convicted in 2020 despite weak evidence.
