Allahabad High Court Awards ₹26.65 Lakh to Man Who Lost Both Arms in Childhood Electrocution Incident

The Allahabad High Court awarded ₹26.65 lakh compensation to a man who lost both his arms after being electrocuted by an unfenced transformer near his primary school in 1997, when he was seven years old.

Setting aside the trial court’s finding of contributory negligence, the Court held that a child of such age cannot be expected to understand the dangers posed by a high-voltage transformer.

It found the electricity department strictly liable for installing and maintaining the transformer without adequate fencing or safety measures in an area frequented by children.

The Court also directed payment of interest and litigation costs.
