Allahabad High Court Flags Misuse of Anti-Conversion Law, Seeks Action on False Cases

The Allahabad High Court raised serious concerns over the growing misuse of the Uttar Pradesh anti-conversion law, noting a “disturbing trend” of false FIRs being filed, often by third parties.

The Court observed that in the present case, the alleged victim’s statement contradicted the FIR, yet the investigation continued, indicating possible external pressure on authorities.

It directed the State government to file an affidavit explaining what action is being taken against such false cases.

The Court also summoned the complainant to explain why action should not be initiated for filing a frivolous FIR, while granting protection to the accused.
