Allahabad High Court Flags ‘Weapon Culture’ in UP, Seeks Details of Gun Licences Held by Politicians

The Allahabad High Court observed that a culture glorifying weapons disrupts social harmony and breeds fear.

While reviewing firearm proliferation in Uttar Pradesh, the Court discovered that despite a stated zero-tolerance policy, police concealed licensing data regarding influential political figures like Brij Bhushan Singh and Raja Bhaiya.

Shockingly, over ten lakh active private licenses exist statewide, with thousands granted to repeat criminal offenders.

Rejecting the official state affidavit, the Bench directed authorities to submit a transparent disclosure detailing gun licenses and state security provided to politicians, warning that further non-compliance will be treated as willful dereliction of duty.
