Allahabad High Court Warns Police Officer for Not Wearing Uniform in Court, and Appearing in Casuals

  • Case Name: Shakeel Ahmad vs. State of U.P.

The Allahabad High Court recently ordered a UP police officer to appear in civilian clothes during court proceedings, rather than the prescribed police uniform.

The officer, Inspector Krishna Mohan Rai, was summoned in a ₹5,000 bribery case. Justice Sanjay Kumar Singh emphasised that police officers must attend court in their prescribed uniform and maintain decorum.

While granting bail to the accused, the Court directed the DGP of Uttar Pradesh to issue appropriate guidelines on uniform protocol, with compliance to be reported within six weeks.
