Consumer Court Held Amazon Liable for ₹40K for Failing to Deliver ₹100 Rakhi

The Mumbai District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed Amazon to compensate a customer ₹40,000 for failing to deliver a ₹100 'Motu Patlu Kids Rakhi' ordered in August 2019.

Despite refunding the amount after the scheduled delivery date, the Commission found Amazon deficient in service and engaging in unfair trade practices.

The court noted that Amazon assigned the delivery to a defunct courier service and did not transfer the payment to the seller, holding Amazon directly responsible for the non-delivery.

Rejecting Amazon’s claim of being a mere intermediary, the Commission emphasized its duty to verify sellers and ensure timely delivery and ordered ₹30,000 as compensation and ₹10,000 in legal costs, payable within 60 days.
