Andhra Pradesh High Court Allows Lesbian Couple to Live Together

The Andhra Pradesh High Court upheld the constitutional right of a lesbian couple to live together under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, directing police to reunite them and prevent familial interference.

The petitioner, a 25-year-old woman, alleged that her partner was forcibly detained by her family. After confirming privately on December 17 that the partner wished to live with the petitioner, the Court ruled that as a legal adult, she could make her own life choices.

The police were instructed to ensure her safe escort. No criminal action was warranted against the parents, as per her wishes.
