Andhra Pradesh High Court Upholds Extended Internship for FMGs Completing Online MBBS

The Andhra Pradesh High Court upheld the AP Medical Council's decision to deny permanent registration to Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) who completed part of their MBBS education online.

The Court emphasized that medical training requires hands-on learning, including dissections, patient interaction, and clinical exercises, which online classes cannot replace.

Despite passing the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) and completing a one-year internship, the petitioners were denied registration due to non-genuine offline class certificates.

As per the National Medical Commission’s circulars, FMGs with any online education must complete a compulsory two-to-three-year internship before receiving permanent registration.
