AIMIM Challenges Waqf Amendment Bill in Supreme Court Over Alleged Constitutional Violations

  • Case Name: Asaduddin Owaisi v. Union of India

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has filed a petition in the Supreme Court contesting the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, asserting that it infringes upon Articles 14, 25, 26, 29, and 30 of the Indian Constitution.

The bill restricts who can create a waqf, removes protection for 'waqf by user,' and permits non-Muslims on waqf boards, allegedly infringing on minority rights and religious freedoms.

Congress MP Mohammad Jawed also challenged the bill, calling it discriminatory against Muslims.

The amendment, having passed both Houses of Parliament, awaits Presidential assent.
