Ashoka University associate professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad was arrested on May 18 over a Facebook post about Operation Sindoor, India’s cross-border strike after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
He wrote that India had told Pakistan, “If you don’t deal with your terrorism problem, then we will!”
A Haryana magistrate remanded him to police custody till May 20, 2 PM. Two FIRs cite Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 196, 197, 152, 299, 353, and 79.
Complainants include Yogesh Jatheri and Haryana Women’s Commission chief Renu Bhatia alleged his remarks on women officers were communal. Mahmudabad claims his words were misinterpreted.
