Ayurvedic/ Ayush doctors can’t seek parity with medical doctors

  • Case Name: Dr. Solamon A v The State of Kerala
  • Judge(s): Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan

The Supreme Court recently dismissed an SLP stating that Ayurvedic and AYUSH doctors cannot claim equality with allopathic medical doctors, citing qualitative differences in academic qualifications and degree standards.

The SC also referred to the case of CCRAS v. Bikartan Das, highlighting the distinction between the two systems of medicine.

Additionally, the Court cited State of Gujarat & Ors. v. Dr. P.A. Bhatt & Ors., which held that allopathic doctors and practitioners of indigenous medicine cannot perform the same work and are not entitled to equal pay.
