The Bangalore Urban District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ordered Ola Electrical Technologies Pvt Ltd to refund ₹1,635 service charges collected from an Ola electric scooter owner for repairs during the warranty period.
The Bench ruled that charging for repairs under warranty amounted to unfair trade practice and directed Ola to pay ₹20,000 compensation for mental harassment and ₹5,000 for legal expenses, with 6% annual interest on the refund.
The case involved a Bengaluru consumer whose Ola S1X scooter faced issues within the first year. Ola failed to honour warranty terms and ignored legal notices.
The Commission warned Ola against such practices, emphasising the need to uphold warranty obligations promptly and avoid burdening consumers.
