Bar Council of India Suspends Advocate Rakesh Kishore for Attempting to Attack Chief Justice

The Bar Council of India has suspended Advocate Rakesh Kishore with immediate effect for attempting to assault Chief Justice of India BR Gavai with a shoe in open court.

The incident stemmed from Kishore’s objection to the Chief Justice’s remarks in a case concerning the reconstruction of a dilapidated Lord Vishnu idol at the Khajuraho Temple.

The suspension order, issued in accordance with the Advocates Act, 1961, has barred the advocate from appearing, acting, pleading or practising before any court, tribunal or authority within the country.

Both the Supreme Court Bar Association and the Advocates-on-Record Association condemned the act, terming it “reprehensible.”
