Bar Council of Kerala Initiates Action Against Lawyer For Advertising on Social Media

The Bar Council of Kerala has launched disciplinary proceedings by issuing a show-cause notice to Advocate Happymon Babu over a promotional video on social media allegedly advertising his legal services.

The Council said the video breaches professional etiquette under the Advocates Act, 1961 and recent directives of the Bar Council of India, which bar online promotion by lawyers.

The video reportedly features a woman suggesting people in matrimonial, criminal, and property disputes contact Babu. 

The advocate, who has three years of courtroom experience, denies authorising the video. He claims it was produced by a PR agency using AI, uploaded without his knowledge, and then shared by others. Babu has been asked to respond in writing within 15 days on why disciplinary action should not follow.
