The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a 'Serious Injury Replacement' rule for the 2025–26 domestic season.
This allows teams to replace a player who sustains a serious injury during a multi-day match with a like-for-like substitute.
The injury must be external (e.g., fracture, deep cut, dislocation) and render the player unfit for the remainder of the match. The replacement player must be nominated at the toss, and approval from the match referee is required.
This move follows similar practices in international cricket and aims to enhance player welfare and fairness in competition.
