BCI Writes to CJI After Kerala HC’s Remarks on Bar Council Election Fees, Flags Judicial Overreach

Following critical observations by the Kerala High Court on the steep hike in Bar Council election nomination fees, the Bar Council of India (BCI) has written to the Chief Justice of India expressing strong institutional concern.

Terming the High Court judge’s remarks as “baseless and reckless,” the BCI said they disturbed the constitutional balance between the Bar and the Bench and ignored Supreme Court directions restraining High Courts from entertaining Bar Council election disputes. 

The BCI also warned that continued judicial interference could compel it to seek administrative measures, including transfer of judges, while urging the CJI to ensure election-related matters remain within the Supreme Court’s supervisory framework.
