Belgium has introduced a new law that gives sex workers maternity leave, pensions, health insurance, and sick days starting December 1, 2024.
Before this law, sex workers had no protections and often had to work during pregnancy because they needed money.
Supporters say this law helps protect sex workers and makes their jobs safer. Opponents worry it might make the sex industry seem more acceptable.
According to the new, law sex workers will now have formal employment contracts, which gives them the same rights as other workers in Belgium.
