A Special POCSO Court in Bengaluru issued summons to a former Chief Minister and three others after the Karnataka High Court upheld the order taking cognisance of offences.
The Court observed that Section 35 of the POCSO Act mandated recording of a child’s evidence within 30 days, warranting the early appearance of the accused.
The case arose from allegations of sexual assault on a 17-year-old during a 2023 meeting. The CID re-registered the FIR and filed a chargesheet under Section 8 of the POCSO Act and relevant IPC provisions.
The trial court was directed not to require the former Chief Minister’s personal appearance unless essential, permitting exemption applications.
