MP High Court: Biometric Failure Can't Deny Fundamental Rights; Orders LIC to Appoint Candidate

  • Case Name: Vinod Kumar Meena Versus Life Insurance Corporation of India

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ruled that an individual's fundamental rights cannot be curtailed due to biometric verification failures.

In this case, the petitioner was denied an appointment as an LIC agent solely because of unsuccessful biometric authentication. The Court emphasized that while biometric verification is essential for ensuring a fair selection process, it is not infallible.

It stated that a person's identity should not be dismissed based on a machine's failure and should instead be verified through official documents like Aadhaar, PAN card, driving license, or passport.

Consequently, the Court directed LIC to verify the petitioner's identity using such documents and issue the appointment letter within four weeks.
