Bombay High Court Upholds Discharge of Godman Ramesh Modak Under Maharashtra Black Magic Act

  • Case Name: Rohan Vishwas Kulkarni v. State of Maharashtra & Anr,

The Bombay High Court upheld the discharge of self-proclaimed godman Ramesh Madhukar Modak in a case filed under the Maharashtra Black Magic Act, 2013.

The Court clarified that the Act applies only to harmful practices like human sacrifice or deceitful rituals, not genuine spiritual or religious activities.

The complainant, Kulkarni, had alleged psychological harm from Modak’s spiritual workshops and CDs, but the Court found no evidence of direct interaction or coercion.

Dismissing the complaint as lacking credibility, the Court affirmed the lower courts' decision to discharge Modak from all criminal liability.
