Bombay High Court Grants Interim Protection to Kunal Kamra in FIR Over Eknath Shinde Remarks

The Bombay High Court has granted interim protection from arrest to comedian Kunal Kamra, who was booked for alleged objectionable remarks on Deputy CM Eknath Shinde during a comedy show.

Kamra's counsel contended that the FIR infringes upon his fundamental rights under Articles 19(1)(a) and 21 of the Constitution, emphasizing freedom of speech and personal liberty.

It was highlighted that Kamra had offered to cooperate with the investigation via video conferencing due to safety concerns, but the authorities insisted on his physical presence.

The court noted no arrest was necessary under Section 35(3) of the BNSS and directed that no coercive steps be taken until it decides on the plea.
