The Bombay High Court has ordered a social audit of 30 maternity and nursing homes operated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
This decision comes after the unfortunate death of a woman and her newborn, which occurred during a C-section performed with a mobile torchlight due to a power failure.
A committee of medical and health specialists is expected to finish the audit in eight weeks. The case was brought forward by the victim’s husband, drawing attention to the inadequate conditions in civic hospitals.
An investigation revealed that the surgery was conducted without electricity.
The court is calling for immediate enhancements in hospital facilities and patient care.
