The Bombay High Court heard a plea from a 66-year-old adoptive father seeking approval for the termination of his 27-year-old adoptive daughter's pregnancy, as she suffers from below-average intelligence and mental health disorders.
The daughter, who is over 20 weeks pregnant, refused consent for the procedure and did not reveal the identity of the father.
The Court criticized the parents for inadequate care and lack of discipline, questioning their parenting.
The father’s financial limitations and old age were rejected as valid reasons for the termination. The case was referred to the medical board at JJ Hospital for evaluation, and the next hearing is scheduled for January 8, 2025.
