Bombay High Court Seeks State’s Reply on PIL for GPS, Emergency Buttons in Public Transport

  • Case Name: Helping Hands For Humanity vs. State Of Maharashtra
  • Judge(s): Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Bharati Dan

The Bombay High Court issued notice to Maharashtra on a PIL seeking GPS tracking and emergency buttons in old public vehicles for women and child safety.

The petition argues that the State failed to implement safety measures despite the Nirbhaya Fund framework, which mandates GPS tracking and surveillance in public transport.

The plea highlights non-compliance with the 2016 Road Transport Ministry notification, unlike Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Kerala, Uttarakhand, and Chhattisgarh, which have already implemented these measures.

The petitioner urges immediate action, stating that tracking devices and panic buttons will enhance security, aid swift emergency response, and prevent untoward incidents.
