Bombay High Court: State Can’t Ignore Child Homes While Funding Ladki Bahin Scheme

The Bombay High Court criticised the Maharashtra government for denying or delaying financial aid to NGO-run child care homes while continuing welfare spending under schemes like the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana.

Hearing petitions by employees of children’s homes seeking salary grants, the Aurangabad bench observed that the State has a higher constitutional obligation to protect and rehabilitate vulnerable children under the Juvenile Justice Act.

The Court directed the government to frame a policy within six months for granting salaries to deserving institutions and stressed that allocation of public resources must satisfy the test of reasonableness under Article 14 of the Constitution.
