The Bombay High Court recently revived the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on illegal hoardings because of a big increase in unauthorized banners following the elections.
On December 19, 2024, the court called the situation "horrendous" and sent show-cause notices to 25 political parties, including the BJP and Congress, for not following its earlier orders.
This follows a 2017 ruling in the Suswarajya Foundation case, which required strict action against illegal hoardings. The court criticized both political parties and local authorities for not taking action and warned that they could face contempt proceedings if things don’t improve.
The case will be heard again on January 27, 2025.
