The Bombay High Court has restrained a Bihar-based lawyer, Sonu Nigam Singh, from impersonating singer Sonu Nigam on X (formerly Twitter).
Justice RI Chagla passed an ex-parte order after the singer filed a plea alleging violation of his personality rights.
Singh had made politically and communally charged posts under the name “Sonu Nigam,” leading to confusion and online hate directed at the singer.
Though there was no commercial gain, the court noted Singh’s misleading conduct and directed him to use his full name, “Sonu Nigam Singh,” on the platform to prevent further misrepresentation. (Sonu Nigam v Sonu Nigam Singh)
